Vision

The Digital Library Initiatives team works with library and other partners to ensure that all campus and distance users have digital access to all library resources relevant to their course- and research-related information needs.

Mission
  • To provide tools, content, and services that help define the UA Digital Library.
  • To preserve the Library’s digital content.
  • To lead in the advocacy of fairness in privacy, intellectual property, and copyright issues.
  • To be leaders and innovators in digital libraries, both philosophically and technically.
Customers and Partners

We serve University of Arizona students, faculty and staff as our primary customers. Our work may also benefit the K-12 community and the citizens of Arizona. Potential partners, with whom we work to contribute to the national digital library, may come from the UA community, and also local, regional and national associations, societies, museums, archives, libraries, corporations, or other types of organizations.

In the context of contributing to the Library’s mission of providing access to information, the Digital Library Initiatives Group works with selectors, other library staff, and other customers and partners in and outside the library to create new digital resources, tools (to facilitate access to content) and services (to enable users to gain more coherent access to varied digital content).

Quality Standards Projects
QS 1: 97% of DLIG products will meet their goals for usage

Project 1.1: Establish amount of use each DLIG product should receive after completion. Gather baseline data on current use, measuring use in a variety of ways
QS 2: Digitize and make available on the Web, two of the top ten collections identified for digitization Project 2.1: Develop the list of top ten collections for digitization (joint project with Special Collections)

Project 2.2: Develop standards and guidelines for use in this and other digitization projects (joint project with Special Collections)
QS 3: 90% of users who respond to a survey express satisfaction with the DLIG product they used Project 3.1: Develop and implement online surveys, and work with IS librarians to develop questions for use in their in-class surveys when feasible

In this MCP, we focus specifically on copyright, intellectual property, privacy and censorship issues as they relate to sharing information in the education environment.

DLIG also supports the achievement of the Scholarly Communication team’s quality standards by participating in the project team’s activities. We serve as Scholarly Communication’s management review team.

We are calling information infrastructure the management and maintenance of our content, hardware, and software; and the strategies and methods we employ in order to keep our content accessible to users.
